Finca El Hato is located in the Fraijanes region of Guatemala at around 1250-1400masl. Last year El Hato suffered immensely from Roya (Coffee Leaf Rust) - losing over 60% of its production. Since then the farm has planted over 200,000 new trees of different varieties resistant to Roya. The farm has bounced back and is producing amazing coffee once again.

This El Hato has notes of toffee and fig with a lovely rich, deep character with a overall balance of sweetness and acidity. Top grade decaf.

Product Description

Finca El Hato is located in the Fraijanes region of Guatemala at around 1250-1400masl. The farm was originally purchased Mr. Enrique Topke in 1938. It is now managed by the third and fourth generations. El Hato is located in Barberena, in the Fraijanes Coffee Region at 4,800 ft above sea level. This farm has always produced a balanced and sweet chocolaty cup loved by many.

Last year El Hato suffered immensely from Roya (Coffee Leaf Rust) - losing over 60% of its production. But as with any difficult situations many new possibilities emerge. Since then the farm has planted over 200,000 new trees of different varieties resistant to Roya. Along with that they have also adopted many new methods of keeping the plants well fed and healthy with Lombricompost (Organic food).

building that was an old abandoned public school on El Hato recently completed a 6 month project to provide a new school for children in the local area, redeveloping a run-down a neighbouring lot of Finca El Hato, in Barberena. Most of the students are children of coffee workers or pickers at the farm. However the school also welcomes any other children in the area. After such great success - they are looking to build two more.

Decaffeination Method

Very gentle decaffeination with natural carbon dioxide: In 1988 CR3 developed a patented decaffeination process using natural carbon dioxide under subcritical conditions (i.e. relatively low temperature and pressure).
