Malawi have recently been producing some lovely gourmet coffees and are getting the recognition they deserve in the specialty coffee market. We're always looking to bring in new and exciting coffees to the roastery and this is one of a few Malawi coffees that you should definitely try. The Sable Farming Company, of which the Chipale Estate is part of, recently won a number of accolades at the Taste of Harvest in Japan.

The Chipale estate located in the Chiradzulu district, near to the old town of Zomba in the south of Malawi (unlike the more established Mzuzu which is grown in the north). Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with its economy based largely on agriculture, accounting for 90 percent of foreign exchange earnings, 40 percent of its GDP, and employs 80 percent of the workforce (Source: UN report 2005).

We think this Chipale estate is fantastic. It has a mellow acidity, with a good body. But what singles this coffee out is the lovely smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel and a really pleasing finish with no harsh or bitter notes. It cups beautifully.
