Costa Rica Coopronaranjo Peaberry Special - 500g
A delicious, light bodied and refreshing coffee with a very distinctive, zesty fruit quality. A symphony of bright, elegant flavours washes cleanly over the palate - reviving spirits and making this an ideal mid-morning companion. These beans, also known as Caricolino, are formed when the coffee cherry produces just one ovule, instead of the customary two. The result is a bean which curls over, making an almost egg-like shape. The sacks from the Naranjo Co-operative make light of this, by displaying a picture of a snail on the jute bagging. The Cooperativa de Productores de Cafe Servicios Multiples de Naranjo's origins date back to the 1960s, and it is certainly a highly regarded and well run co-operative in Costa Rica. As its name suggests, Coopronaranjo covers a wide array of farmers in the Naranjo district - beginning with just 98 in 1966. The Co-operative has its own mill and processing centre, centrally located for all farmers, where the harvested coffees are washed, fully sun dried and graded before export. Since its establishment nearly 40 years ago, the co-operative has grown significantly, and is a pioneer in the improvement of environmental, social and workforce practices across the locality. Its Quality and Environmental Management system is based on ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 health and safety standards, while a constant programme of farmer education ensures that Coopronaranjo members tend their land effectively for the continued production of exceptional quality coffee.
