Fazenda Lagoa Do Morro lies at around 990 metres above sea level in the rolling hills around the town of Brejões, in the centre-east of Bahia state. This is a rural area whose local economy is fuelled by coffee production (the region’s main cash crop). Farms in the area also produce passion fruit, cassava, castor oil and sisal, or raise beef cattle on huge expanses of pastureland.
Lagoa Do Morro extends over a massive 4,400 hectares, with 1,100 hectares under coffee - Catuai, Mundo Novo and Bourbon varietals. The region’s climatic conditions provoke multiple blossoming from the coffee trees, so the estate selectively handpicks its coffee to select only the fully ripe cherries. The main harvest runs from June until September.
This is a top quality Brazilian coffee. It has a bright citrus acidity and a juicy mouthfeel, with a pronounced sweetness and notes of cane and brown sugar. We really enjoy its long, lingering finish.
