The Wahana estate is a fairly new estate having been established in 2005 in Lae Mungkur village within the Dairi district of northern Sumatra. The coffee is grown at around 1,200 - 1,500m with the plantation spanning across 468 hectares. However of this, around 250 hectares is used for coffee cultivation, 30 hectares for coffee nurseries, 10 hectares for coffee processing and 100 hectares for Natural Reserve to preserve the delicate ecosystem in the area. The remaining area is used for growing vegetables, composting, worker facilities and guest houses.
All the coffee is grown using only organic fertilisers from the composting facility on-site and the farm is has shade canopy trees planted throughout.
The estate has set up a housing scheme for workers and a clinic which provides medical assistance for the entire workforce for free. It also buys coffee cherries from small farmers in the surrounding areas that are processed at their mills.
This is a fully washed coffee & 100% Longberry, thus named for it's appearance which is long and thin in comparison with other coffee varietals. It has a brown sugary-sweetness with syrupy spicy molasses, with a deep finish.
