Very silky Sumatran coffee, top grade.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Wahana estate is a fairly new estate having been established in 2005 in Lae Mungkur village within the Dairi district of northern Sumatra. The coffee is grown at around 1,200 - 1,500m with the plantation spanning across 468 hectares. However of this, around 250 hectares is used for coffee cultivation, 30 hectares for coffee nurseries, 10 hectares for coffee processing and 100 hectares for Natural Reserve to preserve the delicate ecosystem in the area. The remaining area is used for growing vegetables, composting, worker facilities and guest houses.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRasuna is a Sumatran coffee variety with an unusual bit of family history. It is generally described as a cross between Typica and Catimor, bringing together two varieties with very different strengths. The idea was to get some of Catimor's productivity and disease resistance without giving up the longer productive life associated with Typica.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt's still a relatively uncommon name outside Indonesia, but Rasuna has become particularly associated with farms in North Sumatra, including Wahana Estate in Sidikalang.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll the coffee is grown using only organic fertilisers from the composting facility on-site and the farm is has shade canopy trees planted throughout.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe estate has set up a housing scheme for workers and a clinic which provides medical assistance for the entire workforce for free.
